Plex.tv shared server download file

FTP is just one of many alternitives for those who want to easily make whole libraries downloadable for their users, dropbox doesn't achive that, not with massive libraries.

The problem with making Plex a platform that allows sharing files is that it becomes more vulnerable, it's as simple as that. I´m not saying it wouldn't be nice to have that option, I´m just pointing out why it's not something they should be considering. Allowing content from Home Movies sections would make sense, but can be misused as well. 

Sure, dropbox and other services do make illegal fileshare  but sharing copyrighted material is not it's main purpose. Since Plex's main focus is playback of copyrighted media, making that media available to download would make it very open to copyright-based lawsuits.

If I were in their shoes, it's not something I would even consider. 

How can a simple download button, that is only accessible when logged in, be seen a vulnerability?

As you have to manually invite persons to shared items like home movies or pictures, you have to trust those persons to not misuse your content anyway ... otherwise I would just revoke the invitation again!

The one thing that I also don't understand is that Plex is advertising the "Share your media with friends and family" feature on this page: https://plex.tv/features

They write "Exchange precious memories with distant family members by sharing your vacation photos and home videos" !!!

My interpretation of this exchanging/sharing feature doesn't stop with just being able to see the content!?

I don't think somebody will file a lawsuit against someone who's sharing pictures/movie of his/her children with their relatives abroad!?!?!?

I'm a software developer and I know that there are ways to develop features to be implemented legally and correct, many other companies doing the same thing!

You can misuse any kind of software for illegal purposes, but that doesn't mean that the developers intentionally made it for that!

So please vote for this kind of feature, as I'm sure it would help a lot of people facing the same problem!

Also, it would be nice to have an opinion of a Plex employee on that ... or maybe I should just file a "re-feature" request!?
