If I remember right, the D850 doesn't save NEF files in-camera by default, but is set at the factory to just save JPG FINE (which are about 20MB in size). So check your menus to be sure you are shooting NEFs. See page 88 of the User Guide, or page 46 of the Menu Guide.
As someone else mentioned, the MB size of the files does not correlate to the MegaPIXEL of the camera. The ~20MB JPGs are likely still 46MP (not MB), but are compressed to be smaller.
If you've updated LR to 6.14 as you've mentioned, but are only getting JPGs, then there's something wrong with the method of importing. If you're importing from camera, check all of the options on the import dialog.
Most of us I think prefer to take the card out of the camera and copy the files to the computer using a card reader. That way, you can see what files are on the memory card.
