How to download a raw file on icloud 2019 - pity
iCloud Photo RAW handling
So I’m missing something here I guess. When I look at Adobe I see 1TB for $19.99 mo whereas Apple is 2TB for $9.99.
There are 3 photography plans: Two are called "Photography Plan" of which one comes with 20GB of cloud storage ($9.99) while the other one has 1TB of cloud storage ($19.99). Both of these two plans include Lightroom CC, Lightroom Classic, and Photoshop CC.
You, most likely, want to look at the third plan called "Lightroom CC Plan". That plan costs $9.99 per month and does not include the desktop versions of Lightroom Classic or Photoshop, but still the entire Lightroom CC ecosystem (i.e. the desktop, mobile, and web apps), as well as 1TB of cloud storage.
If you open my link on a phone, you probably won't see that third plan right away. You'll have to click on "More" and switch to "Photography plan (1TB) vs Lightroom CC plan" to see it. And yes, Adobe's naming is super confusing.
Now that we found the right plan, let's compare it with Apple Photos. The Adobe Lightroom CC Plan includes 1TB of cloud storage for $9.99 while Apple offers 2TB for the same price. But Adobe Lightroom CC is a way better software than Photos in my opinion. It will give you more power, more freedom, and most of all more control over your photos. And 1TB of cloud storage should be enough for most people transitioning from Apple Photos.
That's just my opinion and as I said before, Lightroom CC is a young product and not flawless. It doesn't yet have all the features that the old desktop version (now Lightroom Classic) has. But it's moving fast in the right direction and its cloud works flawlessly. For people currently using Apple Photos, it provides all the features they are used to and many more, in my opinion.
If you make the switch, here are some helpful tips: https://lightroomkillertips.com/built-tool-moving-apple-photos-lightroom-cc/. And let us know how it went.
