To celebrate its one-year anniversary, the creators of Destiny 2 are offering PC users a free copy of the game for a limited amount of time.

As a surprise bonus, Blizzard Entertainment is offering free copies of Destiny 2to brand new PC usersTo celebrate the game's first year on PC, Blizzard is offering a digital copy of the game to players who don't yet own their own copy for no cost at all.

A multiplayer first-person shooter, Destiny 2 sends players to the frontlines of battle in a futuristic landscape in which they assume the role of Guardians whose function is to stave off invading alien forces. Just a year since its release, Destiny 2 has been celebrated for its complex storytelling, has earned itself a dedicated legion of fans, and continues to broaden its horizon with expansion packs fleshing out itsunique world. Between November 2 and November 18, new players can claim their free copy of Destiny 2 courtesy of Blizzard Entertainment, Bungie, and Activision. In order to obtain their free game, new players will be able to download Destiny 2 on Blizzard's official website after claiming it on the Battle.net app. With the free copy of the game, Blizzard hopes to see a whole slew of new players joining their gaming universe. In an official press release, Destiny 2's game director Steve Cotton said:

“We know Destiny players that want to play on PC expect an amazing experience, whether it’s on their own or with their friends - so, our paramount concern was to keep the discerning requirements of the PC community in mind, and welcoming the Battle.net and Bungie PC communities together. With this gift we look forward to seeing new Guardians in our universe.”

What's more is that the one-year anniversary perks expand beyond new players. Blizzard is offering existing Destiny 2 players on PC unique benefits that include an exclusive emblem for their Guardians - which will be offered in December - celebrating the game's first year on Battle.net. Players will also have the opportunity to play an entirely new "4v4 hybrid activity" mode called "Gambit" for a limited time between November 9 and November 11 that will be included with the Destiny 2: Forsaken expansion. This gaming window will be officially referred to as the "Gambit Free Weekend."

In the competitive world of gaming, the Destiny series has managed to stand out as a dark horse (despite some setbacks), especially given the fact that Destiny 2 was able to successfully improve upon some of its predecessor's more underwhelming features. It evolved its storyline and gameplay to keep the overall gaming experience fresh, and now, with the window opening for brand new players, Blizzard is offering the perfect opportunity to explore the vast Destiny universe - without having to worry about any financial commitments. If nothing else, the free copy of Destiny 2 proves that its creators are confident enough in their product to literally give it away for free, which is an encouraging hint at exciting things to come later down the line.
