Can you force a pdf to download - commit
Force a PDF to open in a browser rather than download to your desktop
These are instructions to force the platform to open PDFs in a browser window rather than downloading to your desktop.
By default, when a user clicks on media or files uploaded through the 'Page Image or Uploads' tab, that PDF automatically downloads to the users desktop. This tutorial shows you how to build a link to a PDF that will open in a browser tab.
- In the WYSIWYG, click on the media browser photo icon in the menubar.
- Click on Library to select a PDF that has already been uploaded (alternatively, you can upload something from your desktop).
- Click the Edit File button under the filename in the new window.
- Right-click the blue link to the PDF in the new window and copy the link address.
- Cancel out of this and X out of the previous window.
Using the link in your content:
- Type an action statement to access the PDF (ie "Read the full report" / "Access the full statement here").
- Hightlight the text.
- Click on the simple chain link in the WYSIWYG menubar (avoid the chain link with the '+' icon for this exercise).
- Paste the link in the URL field.
- Complete the rest of your page and save.
When clicked, the link to the PDF will open in a new browser window.
