How to shut down the .webp format function in the process of saving pictues on the website by chrome 0 Recommended Answers 65 Replies468 Upvotes
I always downloaded the ".webp format pictures" on chrome browser. And this kind of picture format is really not convenient to use and not useful for me to do the next step of using pictures. I even can't open it with my own picture manager. Many operations are not available in this format after saving pictures down to the computer. I don't need the .webp format help me to save room in my computer. All I need is just to save the original .jpg format pictures. Otherwise it's just making troubles and wasting users' time to change format. And I don't know how to quit this function. I didn't see any provided option in the chrome setting. As a kind of high-custom browser, it should provide users free options to use with their own preferences! If there's any solution about this problem, please tell me.I would be grateful! If there's no solution for this, maybe you could consider it in next version of chrome! Thanks!

when you click save image, it asks the path where you want to save. at that time, add extension as ".jpg" to the file name and Save as Type: "All files".. and then click save button on popup (save as popup window)

I'm curious, does the advice from Ramesh resolve this for you? It's a tricky one because webp is the format the image is uploaded to the website in so Chrome is serving the content correctly.

Is not fixing the problem, i have the same issue.
Sorry, webp is not useful at all to me, so if i can't fix this, i'm turning to firefox. I would rather use explorer rather than having to save images on .webp

Same problem here. Sometimes even the extensions that save under different formats fail. I end up having to download them in FireFox instead. Thanks, Chrome.

Messing with the extension will not help of course - when Chrome is recgnised the image is still delivered in webp. The easiest way is to just use another browser which does not support webp to download images. Like MSIE or FireFox.
Well, FF started supporting webp since .65 (I think ) so sites will now deliver webp to FF too.
So you have to change the FF config:
1: Enter about:config in the FF address bar
2: Ignore the warranty warning, in the config list that opens find this entry: "image.http.accept"
3: Right click + modify it -> just wipe the contents "image/webp,*/*"
4: you may need to restart FF
5. Images download will be served in jpg or png

1. Open the image link on another tab
2. Put "?" after the extension (jpg, png, etc). Example: myimage.com/image01.jpg?
4. Save the file as jpg, png, etc instead of webp.
Tested on Chrome. If it doesn't work, include any number after ?
myimage.com/image01.jpg?99

Lately, people have been trying to sign in to my account from another country, or another place in North America, and it forces me to change my password.
Sometimes, when I backspace "webp" and replace it with "jpg", it refuses to display it on my MP4 Player. Another issue is that Chrome OS doesn't support APNG either.
